My role
Product, architecture, the mobile app and the API.
The problem
Recording people in a room raises a real consent question that cloud note-takers skip. The recorder has to capture agreement, keep audio for as short a time as possible, and never cite a line it isn't sure of.
What I built
- A Flutter app with a spoken consent roll call before recording, pause and resume, and markers. Notes carry citations: every note plays back the second it came from.
- An API on a VPS: speech-to-text, then structured notes in the meeting's language, with the audio deleted as soon as the transcript returns.
- A consent pack: a PDF of who agreed, with the audio of them agreeing attached. Lines the model wasn't sure of are marked and never cited.
Hard parts
Deleting audio on purpose
The API deletes the audio the moment the transcript comes back, proven end to end on the live server.
Recording in the background on iOS
Long recordings roll into segments. An 18-minute locked-screen test on a real iPhone exposed an audio-session failure at the roll; the fix is in and a longer hardware run is the next test.
